Lyrics
I laid my eyes on you just a few years ago.
We made eye contact in that dirty ass rugged store.
You must have missed me, I know.
When I walked out that door.
That’s why I came back so fast. I remember exact.
You were still standing by that record stack.
I couldn’t let you go.
That’s why I came back to show.
I just had to let you know.
Don’t you ever forget!
No, don’t you ever forget.
I keep wishing, wishing, wishing.
One day we’ll be riding.
Will we ever be you and me?
I keep wishing.
One day we’ll be riding.
Will we ever be you and me?
Will we ever be you and me.
Just you and me riding.
One day we’ll be riding.
Just you and me riding.
One day we’ll be riding.
You and me riding.
One day we’ll be riding.
Riding.
Will we ever be you and me?
Don’t you know that they, they will say.
We’re better off not anyway.
No place to go.
No home.
No one knows why I cry but you.
You’ve helped me with all I’m going through.
When I had nothing but you and a tiny room.
It’s been like new since that first afternoon.
We held onto what no one said we could do.
You think I ain’t go do it again?
Give you these beats to move your feet.
Get out your seat.
Ride like you’se in heat.
A freak off your leash.
Get it goin’ grindin’ like a butcher and his meat.
?QUESTIONS?
What inspired you to write the song "Ever be?"
I came to a point in my life where I realized I have this love that I would do anything for. I decided I wanted to write a song specifically for and about this love. We have come so far together in life and I wouldn't be the person I am today with out my love.
Who is your "Love" that you are talking about?
Many people think the love I am talking about in this song is a person, but it is not. The love I am celebrating in this song is my love for writing music. I'm talking about finding my first synthesizer keyboard in the song when I say: "I laid my eyes on you, just a few years ago, we made eye contact in that dirty ass record store."
When did you write this song?
"Ever be is a song I wrote in my younger writing days. This is why the song appears early on my album, The Ride. At the time I went by Lady K instead of Katie Ann. I was in college studying music. I was so in love with writing music that it consumed me. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night because I had so many musical ideas. I recorded the third verse for "Ever Be" in the middle of the night after being inspired by a dream that woke me up. I had a recording set up in my room right next to my bed. It was my love. It was my life.. and it still is today.
What is the song about?
Love! Having the determination to never give up on love and spending endless hours on it. If you really are in love you will be loyal and never let it go. Even if you do let it go, if it's true love it will always come back. For me that's how my music career has always been. This has not been an over night success. My passion for music began as a child and took years upon years to define. True love takes time and commitment.
Whose rapping in the third verse?
Lady K. In my earlier writing days I went by the name Lady K and not Katie Ann. My production company is named after her, LK Productions. The original creation of this song before it was re-done for the album has another character in the third verse that appears after Lady K. I personally liked the twist but too many people were completely thrown off by the outrageous character that I decided to remove that part for the final version.About 8 bars of music was cut out. Maybe the old version has leaked, who knows.
What is the meaning behind the hook?
I knew for a long time that I wanted to call my freshman album The Ride. For the chorus it says: "Riding, Riding, one day we'll be Riding. Will we ever be you and me?" I am specifically talking about my album and asking myself "will it ever come to life?" I spent a long time reaching the goal of creating my own album on my own without any outside influences other than the writer. I wanted to create a pure album that illustrates my authentic artwork. It took me a long time because I'm a perfectionist and I knew that one day I would reach perfection with my skills. I grew and became the artist I am today because of the journey creating The Ride. The irony of it is that I was already Riding and didn't even realize it when I wrote the song. Ever be is no longer a question. The Ride is done and now it's not Ever Be? it's I've been.
Did you write the lyrics and the beat to this song?
Yes. I wrote all parts of this song. Then I took it to a professional recording studio and had my engineers record and make the song sound crystal clear.
